When we arrived this morning I asked her if she wanted me to walk her to her classroom or drop her off. She asked me to go in, so we did. It wasn't long before Teacher Lisa swooped her into an activity. I kind of stood there waiting for a hug or acknowledgement that I even existed and it took Teacher Lisa telling Emma to say goodbye. It was exactly how I wanted it to be. She went right into playing and never looked back. I was excited on the way home until Rebecca started saying, "Emma? Emma? Emma?" from the back seat all the while pointing to her empty car seat. That is when the tears started flowing. I had it all together by the time we hit the driveway.
We came inside and I got the entire first floor cleaned while Rebecca played with the magnets on the refrigerator. I had no idea how much I could accomplish in 45 minutes. Then Rebecca and I headed for her gym class. She had a great time not having any competition from Emma. Then we headed home and I got some gardening done before heading out to pick Emma up.
When we arrived at school, Rebecca was saying Emma's name again and I told her we were getting her. Emma walked outside with Teacher Susan, ran into my arms and said, "Hi Mommy. I had so much fun at school today." What a huge sigh of relief I gave. There is no other feeling than having your child run into your arms filled with happiness. I will treasure that memory forever.
Thank you to all of you who have said an extra prayer for us. Another huge moment accomplished with great joy!!
