What a wonderful day it was from start to finish. It all started with a really nice church service geared towards families. Then my family took me out to lunch (meal #1 I didn't have to make).
Then they helped me pick out a new bicycle. Now, mind you, this new bike would be the first one I have ridden in close to 10 years. The last bike I had was the one my parents bought for me when I was 14. Every time I rode on it as an adult, I thought I was going to blow a knee out. Brian has been saying, "if you get a newer bike, you will be able to ride it without pain." I have always pushed the idea off thinking that I didn't want to spend the money on it. I am so glad that the girls wanted to go for a family bike ride today, because I wanted to as well. So we bought my bike and helmet, came home, changed clothes and off we went.
We rode for three miles. I was so incredibly proud of my girls. Although Rebecca struggled a little bit on the way back, the passers-by really cheered her on and motivated her to keep riding. Brian and I tag teamed kids. We would switch back and forth so we could spend time with each child. I had such a great time. No more training wheels for anyone. Those kids just sat down and rode.
When we got home, Brian prepared a yummy steak and sweet potato dinner followed by my favorite ice cream of all time, mint-chocolate chip. Then we did a little yard work, planted a few Mother's Day flowers I received, put the girls to bed, and sat out under the stars on the back deck and talked for an hour.
Now that is what I call the perfect day. Thanks to my husband and children for putting it all together for me. Days like these make me realize how blessed I am to have been given the opportunity to be a mother. When I wake up tomorrow and it is back to the regular schedule I hope that I am able to continue on the "high" from today and remember that life is oh so good!!
