A few small milestones

Yesterday was Emma's first day back to school after having 19 days off.  We kept her home on Monday because of a low grade fever that she has had on and off for the past week.  Anyway, when we got into the car Emma declares that she is going to buckle herself.  I was told to go sit where I sit because I am not going to need to do a thing.  So, I dutifully buckled Rebecca in her seat and proceeded to my seat.  And as promised Emma buckled herself all on her own.  For the rest of the day she did the same each time we got into the car.

Later on in the day Emma had her first gym class.  She was so excited to go and so we all got into the car and went.  At the end of her class I gave the kids their coats and told them to get them on. When I turned around to gather Rebecca up she had zipped the coat all by herself.

I have decided that these two seemingly inconsequential acts will really make my life a little easier each and every day.  So many times I go through my day and wonder if things will get easier.  Yesterday they did get a little easier and so I turn to God and thank him for giving my children the drive and independence to want to do these little things.

I am always reading a sign that hangs in Rebecca's room and trying so hard to apply it to my life.  It says, "Take time to enjoy the little things because some day they will be the big things."  So, yesterday I did just that.

It is so wonderful when they both can buckle themselves...and even better when they can close the car door tight..(wish I had one of those remote door mini-vans) Anyway these are great accomplishments and they deserve to be celebrated...it makes them want to try more!
I remember being thrilled to death when Kaityln learned to pump herself on the swing...No more pushing for me! Yay for Emma and Rebecca!
