She Quacks Like a Duck

There are lots of people in this world who are animal lovers.  Most of them enjoy the warm fuzzy ones like cats and dogs.  In my family, we tend to gravitate to the less traditional ones.  For example, growing up we had rabbits, guinea pigs, and for 8 years took care of a 6 foot 4 1/2 inch boa constrictor named Cleo.  In my house there is a turtle, parakeet, and three fish.  No snakes allowed in these fours walls.  Not unless I wanted to live in a separate house from my husband.  Some people wonder where I get my unique desire for unusual pets.  Well, I come by it honestly.

For as long as I can remember, my aunt has been raising ducks from eggs every spring.  She releases them into the wild once they can fly and many of them still come back to visit her.  This year was no exception.  She had two eggs that she hatched.  Unfortunately one of them met his untimely death by getting under her foot.  However, Marco has survived.  The girls have thoroughly been enjoying watching the whole process that began back in May.  We were just told this morning that Marco has been gone since Thursday night.  But no worries, she resurfaced this morning and stopped by to say hello, grab a bite to eat, and head on her merry way.

Some people are called the "crazy cat lady."  My aunt is the "crazy duck lady", but we love her so much and thank her for transferring her love of animals to our children.  It is a true gift.

At one week old.

Hard to restrain the girls from wanting to hold her.

Not sure who is happier!

She just loves eating clams.

Some people have dogs laying at their feet.  Not us, we have ducks.

They grow up so fast!  The ducks and the kids :)
