Summer Fun??

It is just the first week of June and it is a very warm one.  One of the dozens and dozens of things I love about this neighborhood is that we all go outside on a daily basis and meet up with at least one other family, if not six or seven.

Tuesday was one of these days.  It was an incredibly frustrating afternoon for me as I spent 2 1/2 hours trying to maintain my cool while telling my two beautiful children that I was not going to pick up one blasted toy from Rebecca's floor.  It was another one of those days where every single toy ended up in the middle of the floor.  I was absolutely determined that with this happening at least once a week, that I would not enable this behavior one more minute.  Therefore I stood my ground and picked up nothing.

Then the phone rang and our neighbor across the street called to invite us over for a hot afternoon in the slip-n-slide.  Somehow this was the motivator needed for my kids to clean up.  This reminds me to have a neighbor call every afternoon around 4 to "motivate" my kids.

So, the kids suited up and headed over all excited to play.  There were probably 10-12 kids nicely taking turns down the slide.  I was complaining to the other moms about my afternoon when all of the sudden I see one of them wince and then I hear Emma crying and holding her wrist.  I knew something was wrong and it didn't take long to decide to take her for x-rays.  1 1/2 hours later I learned that she had broken both bones in her arm just above the wrist.  They called it a buckle fracture (the best kind if you have to have one).

Emma was absolutely devastated.  She cried like I have never heard her cry before.  Lest you should think it was because of the pain, it was not.  She was so upset because she thought her friends would think she looked funny and not want to play with her.  Oh the things little minds think of.

So, we had a splint put on and told to contact an orthopedic doctor the next morning.  Brian thought immediately of one of his wrestling kid's mom.  She is a nurse for an orthopedic doctor in Exton.  He called her up and we had an appointment made for this morning at 8:30.  She was hoping for a pink cast.  They didn't have pink, but instead she settled for light blue so that her friends could sign the cast.

My biggest relief came when  I saw him wrapping her arm and stopping just below the elbow.  This opens a whole new realm of mobility that I didn't think she would have.

I am so thankful for all the prayers and support of family and friends.  Emma is such a brave little girl and I am so thankful she is so tough and so gentle at the same time.

I have a feeling this will not slow her down one bit! She will be back to tree climbing in no time! She is indeed a brave little girl.

Love the new blog design!
