I have decided that it is time to get the girls out on road trips. I am loving that they are so "portable." No diapers to worry about. No naps that are crucial to the success (or failure) of an event. And at this point in their lives, two girls who don't mind being in the car.
So, Brian was able to get off three days of work and we headed south of the Mason-Dixon Line to a place called Bolar, VA. You might ask where that is? I can't actually tell you. All I know is that we drove for 7 hours and over so really high mountains and down into some really low valleys.
Brian's Dad has a friend who is a Mennonite preacher along with being a turkey farmer, fishing and hunting guide, maple syrup maker, pork BBQ maker, and caterer. He is quite the renaissance man. He very lovingly opened his home to us and we quickly felt "at home."
We got a tour of the farm by his 7 year old and 2 1/2 year old grand-daughters. Emma and Rebecca became fast friends with these two sweet kids.

Tuesday, Mr. Puffenbarger took all of us on a fishing trip on his pontoon boat. Each of the girls caught a blue gill fish. They were both so thrilled. Even Grandpa caught one. We were so proud of him because he is very afraid of being on water that he can't see the bottom of.

We got to feed some of the animals and see 25,000 4 week old turkeys.
I think the highlight for me was that there was no cell phone reception within an hour and a half of Bolar. No iPhone for Brian. We all really enjoyed being "unplugged" for 48 hours, including Brian. Yes, it is true. He was able to survive quite nicely without his phone. Of course, all good things must come to an end. Once we got back into reception, he had 208 new emails, but he managed to get them down to 54 by the time we got home.

If this is a sign of what the summer holds for the Martz family, I am really excited! This will certainly be a summer to remember.
