Rest Time In Our House

So, for the past few weeks Rebecca has been resistant about taking a nap.  My philosophy has always been that if you don't want to sleep, don't, but you have to stay in your room by yourself.

The past week has had a few new attempts at exactly what qualifies as "Quiet Time" in the girl's world.  Earlier this week I had a few business calls I needed to make so I headed to the basement to take care of these after I put the girls in their respective rooms.  I came up about 15 minutes later to hear some chitter-chatter up in Rebecca's room.  A few phrases I heard were,

1) Shhh.. Mommy thinks we are in rest time.
2) Rebecca - Emma will you come play with me?
Emma - Only if you whisper.
3) Emma, let's build a nest in my closet.

The primary reason I let this go and did not intercede on the Quiet Time rules was that the girls have been fighting like....well....girls.  They are just at each other, provoking, instigating.  Call it what you will but it makes me feel like I should be a firefighter as I spend a lot of my days putting out fires.  So, the fact that the girls remained up in Rebecca's room COMPLETELY happy with each other with not one confrontation for over an hour was a small battle won in my world. It was just so much fun to sit down here and listen to them get along with each other.

The next variation on rest time happened this afternoon.  Yet again, Rebecca was resisting rest time; partially because I was finishing up a craft with Emma and she wanted in on it and partly because she just doesn't want to nap anymore.  So, I told her that she should go work on her nest in her closet and see what kind of fun she can make for herself.

So when Emma and I finished up our craft, I took her upstairs to read her books and peeked in on Rebecca very happily "nesting".  I read two books, which took about 10 minutes.  Rebecca was still contentedly playing as I headed downstairs.  I breathed a sigh of relief as the nesting noises had stopped and I pictured Rebecca snuggled up under her blankets in her bed.

I went upstairs to peek and this is what I found.

A nap is a nap no matter where you take it;)
