Sister...the protector

Emma's preschool class has a weekly Mystery Reader come into her class and read a book.  It is often a parent who read's his/her child's favorite book.  Well, today was my turn.  I took Rebecca with me.  We were to be there at 11:30 but since I was bringing our neighbor's daughter home as well as Emma, I wanted to get there a little early so I could get the car seats in the car before I had the kids with me.  Well, little did I know that Emma's class was going to be out on the playground.  Emma immediately saw the car and recognized it.  She leapt off the sliding board and jumped on top of a picnic table to say hi.  It was a very sweet greeting.

So I gathered Rebecca up in her stroller and drove her over to the playground.  Emma's teacher asked if Rebecca wanted to go in for a few minutes to play.  Of course, any excuse for Rebecca to get out of her stroller is perfectly fine with her.  She jumped at the opportunity.....literally.  I handed her over the fence and Emma immediately came over to her and took her hand.  I proceeded to walk away and get the carseats.  As I was walking away, however, I overheard this conversation:

Emma:  Rebecca, would you like to come and meet all my new school friends?

Rebecca: Yes, Emma.

Emma:  I bet since they are my friends that they will be your friends too.

It just melted my heart.  I was so proud of the both of them.  Emma stuck by Rebecca's side the entire time they were on the playground.  All the girls in the class wanted to play with Rebecca.  Emma was very excited to "show off" her little sister.

It was one of those things that as a parent I look at and say, "I must be doing something right."  A very proud parent of two very good little girls.

That's awasome! I love how the older sibling automatically becomes the care taker of the younger one. Emma is very proud of her little sister. :) That's a very sweet story.

SO CUTE! Char is right, it is so neat how the older one becomes the ultimate protector ... although in my experience as the "oldest" I could also be the worst antagonizer too.... I'm sure your girls won't be like that though! :)

So cute! What a good big sister! Nathan and I were just talking last night about how he'll have to look out for his little sis when she goes to school with him on the bus. Sometimes I think she is more protective of him!
