Irene has come and gone

And we are all safe and have very little clean up.  As we prepare for the first day of school tomorrow we are saying many prayers of thanksgiving that we were kept safe during Hurricane Irene.

Last night was fairly uneventful.  Brian ended up driving down to the Roxborough area to pick up a dear friend of ours.  She was in her house alone and we felt that she needed to be somewhere where there we other people to help weather the storm.  So, that is exactly what we did.  We stayed up way too late some of us drinking wine and watching the news non-stop.  Of course as the night progressed, it was almost like an episode of MST3000.  Our commentary was far more entertaining than what was actually being shown.

It was great to have Sarah here.  This morning we left the girls with Grandpa while Brian and I took Sarah home along with our squeegee and shop vac.  2 hours later, we had vacuumed up about 100 gallons of water and turned the fan on full blast in hopes that the basement would be dry.

The rest of the day was spent very low key watching movies, making crafts, reading books, and just hanging out.  If we had to be stuck inside because of a hurricane, that is the way I would want to do it every time.
