The Lost Tooth

Today, exactly 2 months from Emma's 6th birthday, she lost her first tooth.  Back in November when the girls had their dentist appointment, Dr. Pyke told Emma that after Christmas, she would lose her first tooth. Me, not having had any recent experience losing teeth, expected it to happen in January.  Little did I know that these things can hold on for months.

This afternoon Emma kept asking if I would try to pull out her tooth, under the condition that if she said it hurt, I would stop.  True to my word, I stopped when it hurt.  Then tonight before dinner I asked her if I could have one more try.  She said yes with the same conditions.  I pulled and she said, "Owww, Mommy!  That hurt my tooth."  To which I lovingly replied, "You mean the tooth that I have in my hand?"

Her eyes got so wide I thought they would fall out of her head.  Then she got really sad.  Not quite the reaction I expected.  I think she was struggling with a piece of her no longer being attached to her and not only that but that she was going to willingly give this piece of herself to a fairy that she won't even see.

Well, we immediately Skyped with Daddy at work and showed him and then the mood turned around.  She was really excited and set to work writing a note to the tooth fairy.  Her expectation is that the tooth fairy will also leave a note as well as some money.

Here's hoping the tooth fairy did a good job:)
