Tonight Emma chose the Max Lucado book You Are Special to read before bedtime. She is completely enamored by the fact that Eli in the book is a representation of God. She just thinks it is really neat that here is a book with specific characters in it, but that they represent someone different.
As we were doing our nightly chats, she told me about something that happened at a neighborhood party this afternoon. A bunch of kids were wrapping cookies up in napkins and hiding them for the others to find. Other children were finding the cookies and she wasn't. Then she finally found one and noticed that two of the girls, who had not yet found one, were pretty upset. She decided she was going to break her cookie into three pieces and give a piece to each of them hoping that they would feel better. She said both of them had big smiles on their faces when she did this.
I asked her why she did this and she said, "Because I knew I would make them happy if I shared my cookie." Oh didn't that just make my heart all mushy inside. So, I took the opportunity to tell her that God made her who she is and that she is so very special. She said, "Do you think God saw me break that cookie?" And I said "Absolutely, YES!"
