The Ice Cream Man

My daughters look forward to hearing the song, "Pop Goes the Weasel" coming down the street because they know the Ice Cream Man is coming.  Up until last summer they thought he was just a guy who drove around neighborhoods with a huge ice cream cone on tope of his van.  Last year they saw some kids run up to the van and actually walk away with ice cream.

Tonight was no different.  We had just finished playing with the neighbors and were heading inside when around the corner they heard the music and saw the van.  They asked if they could buy some ice cream.  I said no, but they could sit and wait for him and wave to him as he drove by.

So, I told them to sit on the curb and they did.  Next thing I realize Rebecca is starting to rub at her legs.  So I tell her to stand up because the grass is probably itching her.  When she did I saw she was absolutely covered in the tiny ants.  And to make it even worse, they were biting her.  I looked down and saw that they were sitting on a huge ant hill.

I grabbed Emma and started brushing them off her too.  The ice cream man was driving past at this very moment.  I told them to wave and then picked Rebecca up as she was holding onto her pull-up and saying, "OUCH!  OUCH"

We ran inside, stripped down and removed about a dozen ants from her diaper area.  Of course they were all angry and just biting all over.  I was thinking somewhat rationally at this point and told her it just looked like a diaper rash and promptly grabbed the Desitin.  I slathered it all over her and that seemed to appease her.

As of the typing of this, a mere 3 hours after the incident, I haven't heard a word out of either one of them about the ants.  I can only hope that they are both fine and will not spend the night scratching and itching.

As one of my dear friends told me,  I could be the next Erma Bombeck.  You can't make this stuff up.

Glad the ant bites do not seem to be bothering them. Hopefully there will be no ant nightmares for Rebecca. My kids would just have nightmares about me not letting them get ice cream.

You're right - you can't make this stuff up. I often think throughout my day that people would not BELIEVE the things that go on in the life of a stay at home mom. It's like a sitcom sometimes! :) Glad E & R are fine!
