Today was a very important day in our household. It was a day that the girls were very much looking forward to as they had the opportunity to spoil Daddy for Father's Day. The day started out at an early 6:09 with me and Rebecca, followed quickly with Emma at 6:25 and Daddy at 6:40. What is it with these Martz people not sleeping in? Am I the only one who values LOTS of sleep around here?
Well, I decided that we would make Daddy a breakfast of his choice. He chose an egg sandwich, which he has every morning. But Rebecca knows how to make it as she does it with him almost every morning. So, I asked her to help me get Daddy's breakfast ready. She broke the eggs, pushed the button to make his toast and buttered it when it came out. When it was finished I went to make Daddy's favorite Wawa coffee only to fine we were out. So, I dropped everything and drove to Wawa to get some of his favorite coffee and brought it home. Emma was proud to deliver it to him and Rebecca brought him his breakfast.
Then it was off to church. Nothing out of the ordinary there. I had to stay late for a rehearsal, but he went home and made up a picnic lunch so we could all go to Valley Forge Park for our annual pictures/picnic. The girls had so much fun this year running around the arch memorial. We must have taken 35-40 pictures just of that. Then Brian walked the girls across the park to a picnic area while I drove the car to get everything set up. It was so cute to watch them come up over the hill hand in hand. We had a wonderful lunch and then the wind picked up and the girls were cold.
We came home and gave Daddy his present, which was a digital scrapbook that we had published into a paperback for him. That is what is posted at the top of this entry. He really had a good time looking through it. I love watching him look at pictures of his kids. He always has such a wonderful smile as the memories behind the pictures come flooding back. A proud father, for sure.
We laid low this afternoon. I cut the grass. He trimmed the grass while the girls and I made him a steak and baked potato dinner. It was one of the best steaks I have ever grilled, if I can boast for a moment. The girls each had third helpings of it, if that means anything. Then we treated him to some milkshakes for dessert.
It was a really wonderful day with no expectations and many wonderful, unexpected moments. Brian, I treasure you for many reasons, but watching you be a father to our two little girls and set an example of what it is to be a man of character and truthfulness is one that is at the top of my list. Thank you for loving me and our children the way that you do. Happy Father's Day Honey!! I will love you forever and always!
